Happy Halloween Carpenters!

Robby here with info on my next Carpentry Clinic at Piedmont Lumber Co in Walnut Creek. This will be the last one of the season so be sure not to miss it. This November 7th I’ll be using the Kreg pocket jig system to build a face frame cabinet. I love pocket screws and this clinic will definitely show you why. This versatile attachment system is the best advancement in wood working to come along in a long time so be sure to come on down and see how it can make your projects easier, stronger, and go together faster. We start at 10am this time because this is a one part clinic!

See you there!

Second is a shaker style which works great in a Craftsman Home, featuring the use of Kreg Pocket screw jointery, and third is the classic genuine waiscot panel with raised moulding. Don't miss it!

We start at 10:30am with a break for a BBQ lunch from 12:00pm - 1:00pm, finishing up at 2:30pm. Hope to see you there!

Powertank Review in Journal of Light Construction

Hello Carpenters!

Ever just had a few nails to shoot and wish you didn’t have to drag out the whole compressor setup? We all know how heavy and noisy they are, and what a pain for those times when you just have do a little pickup or a small project. Well, I’ve been using a Powertank for my small jobs, like installing doors, for years. AirResearch, the makers of Power Tank, have developed a line of products just for the construction industry and my review of the products was just published in the Journal of Light Construction. Check it out here:

Another Successful Carpentry Clinic!

Thanks Everyone!

I just wanted to first thank not only those of you who attended our second Walnut Creek carpentry clinic, but also those of you great Piedmont People who helped me put it on. Without the support of these great people it would be impossible to provide these clinics to our valued customers. So thanks to all who helped make our Window Install Clinic another great success!

I was again surprised at the number of you who came out on such a beautiful Saturday to listen to me babble on about window construction, installation, and waterproofing techniques. The level of participation by you attendees was incredible. The interest you expressed has me adding info to the next window install clinic as I can tell there are a few more topics I need to address (stucco cutting and patching). The crowd was great, a lot of new faces, and some really intelligent interaction. I learn so much from the input from the crowd that I actually look forward to doing the clinics.

Thanks again to all who helped put it on and to those of you that gave up a really nice morning to come and check it out. Remember next month, Saturday July 11th, is on installing interior doors. This one actually is a two part clinic with installing pre-hung interior doors and trim details in the morning followed by installing new interior doors into existing jambs after our BBQ lunch.

I hope to see you all there!

Hello Builders!

Robby here with some great news from Piedmont Lumber Co. We have in stock the new Makita track saw (inset photo).
What a sweet tool! After using a track saw for the last few months, I DON’T KNOW HOW I EVER LIVED WITHOUT ONE! I knew from the first time I tried one that we had to get them in the store for our customers. Makita just came out with theirs and it is awesome. The saw is ultra-accurate, comes in a slick systainer case, and has tracks available in a wide variety of sizes. I guarantee, you’ll never rip down a full sheet of plywood with a table saw again. This is the slickest advancement in cutting wood since the compound miter saw. I participated in a review of all the leading brands with one of the editors from the Journal of Light Construction, David Frane. You can read all about the saws performance and features here:

Of course David did all the work, I just had to stand around and look good! Be sure to come in a grab one of these great tools before we run out. And AS ALWAYS, Thanks for checking us out!

Saturday, June 6th - Another Exciting Carpentry Clinic at our Walnut Creek Location!

Hello Carpenters!

Fueled by the overwhelming success of our crown moulding carpentry clinic last weekend at our Walnut Creek yard, we’ve gone ahead and scheduled one for next month and in fact for every month of this year! I can’t tell you how excited I am about the great turnout we had. Thank you again too all who braved the rain, and flying nails! (Please stand back!)

Your enthusiasm and the fantastic buzz we have around the store has got me fired up to get another clinic together so Saturday June 6th I’m going to offer two sessions on wainscoting. You’ve always wanted a classic beadboard wainscot in the powder room right? Be here at 10am for that. Or that elegant raised panel wainscot in the dining room? That’s at 1pm, right after the BBQ lunch.

Of course just like last time we’ll have plenty of swag, tool demos, and tricks to share with attendees. Be sure to come, I promise I’ll have a lot more chairs, and more of the tools I use in stock and ready to sell. Do I need a bigger tent too?

Please call us with any questions at 925-935-8400. Look forward to seeing you there!

Tuesday, May 5

Wow! I must say I was impressed (and a bit overwhelmed).

Despite the rain and overall crummy weather our first Carpentry Clinic in our Walnut Creek store was a huge success. The Crown moulding clinic was standing room only! We actually had to set up another tent to keep all the attendees from standing in the rain. Was it the freebies or my engaging presentation?

A big thanks to Paul and the folks at BOSCH Tools for their support and participation and to all you folks that braved the weather to check us out. We look forward to seeing you all again next month when we put on our Wainscot clinic! We’ll be sure to rent a lot more chairs! Thanks again for your tremendous support!
